Hospitality and Event Experience Management

The degree in Hospitality and Event Experience Management is aimed to equip students with the practical skills and knowledge required to design and execute a wide range of hospitality and event experiences. At the end of the program, graduates will emerge with a business-oriented mindset while also employing creative thinking, design, and related capabilities to grow as leaders in the hospitality and event sectors of the industry. The major has two concentrations, and the student must select one: (1) Hospitality Business Management, and (2) Event Management.

Hospitality Industry Management

The degree prepares students for careers in hospitality consulting, real estate development, and corporate services. This customizable degree emphasizes developing analytical skills for decision making in a variety of hospitality business environments. Students identify a customized focus area that provides a set of core competencies in their area of interest. Examples of focus areas include revenue management, real estate development, e-commerce, service marketing, and sustainability management.

Students are required to complete a minimum of 15 credits (five courses) in a well-defined focus area. A specific course plan for the fulfillment of the focus area requirement must be established during the freshman or sophomore year and must be approved by the HSIM advisor.  Additionally, the program requires 400 hours of paid industry experience outside of the classroom.

Students in the Hospitality and Event Experience Management and Hospitality Industry Management majors have the opportunity to participate in a 4+1 MBA program.  With careful planning, academically eligible students can complete both their undergraduate degree and the MBA degree in five years of academic study.

Sport Management

The Bachelor of Science degree prepares students for career opportunities in the sports industry. The majority of those opportunities are in the areas of sales and marketing, leadership and management, finance, and operations within the sports industry.  An integral part of the curriculum is the Sport Management Capstone Internship. Students will complete 450 hours at a pre-approved sport related internship site.
