Program Educational Goals


Hospitality Business Management Concentration - Program Educational Goals:

  1. Identify, analyze, and resolve hospitality business management issues.
  2. Apply analytical solutions in hospitality businesses.
  3. Effectively communicate knowledge and ideas in an increasingly global hospitality marketplace.
  4. Evaluate the legal, economic, ethical, environmental, and socio-cultural effects of hospitality business decisions.
  5. Synthesize and integrate analytics in strategic thinking for the hospitality industry.

Major Requirements:


All courses required for the major, with the exception of free electives, require a minimum grade of C-.

3 credits. Choose any HOSP or EVNT course not listed in core requirements and not required for the concentration.

Industry Work Experience Requirement:


The Hospitality and Event Experience Management major requires 450 hours of approved, paid, and relevant industry work experience outside of the courses on campus. Students are required to successfully complete an additional 550 practicum hours through core experiential learning courses on campus, for a total of 1,000 hours of industry work experience.

Electives:


In addition, sufficient elective credits must be taken to meet the minimum credits required for the degree.

May include Military Science, Music, or Physical Education. Only two credits of BHAN 120 and four credits in MUSC courses and four credits of 100- and 200-level courses in Military Science/Air Force may be counted toward the degree. Students are encouraged to develop fluency in a second language.
