Elementary Teacher Education Associate in Arts


The Associate in Arts (AA) in Education degree is designed for students who have an interest in elementary teacher education and enroll in Georgetown or Wilmington, Delaware programs. This degree includes Professional Studies courses in the Elementary Teacher Education and General Studies courses.  Students who complete the Associate in Arts (AA) degree in Elementary Teacher Education can transition to the BSED program on the Newark campus.  Information regarding admission requirements may be found at the following link: Elementary Teacher Education Associate in Arts (AA-ETE)

University of Delaware’s Associate in Arts (AA) Elementary Teacher Education two-year degree is equivalent to the first two years of the bachelor of science degree in Elementary Teacher Education (BS.Ed.) on the Newark campus. The UD Associate in Arts Program campuses in Georgetown and Wilmington offer a degree option (AA-ETE) that allows students to complete the BS.Ed. in four years.

If any of the course requirements are satisfied through proficiency tests or exams, elective credits must be substituted to reach 62 credit hours. Courses taken to fulfill specific group, math, or language proficiency or multicultural requirements must be taken for a regular grade, not pass/fail. Students must have a C- or better in all courses.

University Breadth Requirements


All students must fulfill the University Breadth Requirements in the four areas of:

ETE students take courses that automatically satisfy all of the categories except Creative Arts and Humanities. Please note that Creative Arts and Humanities is different from the Fine Arts requirement for the ETE program. Students can satisfy the Creative Arts and Humanities category by taking a course that counts toward their program and the Creative Arts and Humanities category simultaneously (e.g., MUED391, THEA 104, ENGL 280, GEOG 203); they do not need to take an extra course beyond the ETE program requirements to fulfill this University Breadth Requirement.

Fine Arts


Three credits of MUSC, ART, or ARTH. This course must satisfy the Creative Arts and Humanities  University Breadth Requirement unless this requirement is satisfied by another course.

Credits to Total a Minimum of 62
