Visual Communications (BFA)


Program Educational Goals


PROGRAM LEARNING OUTCOMES

Bachelor of Fine Arts: Visual Communications

Students will:

  • Be able to articulate the role of visual communications within society and implement their creative processes to solve diverse visual communications problems.
  • Understand and be able to articulate the differences between multiple visual communications media.
  • Be able to effectively use written and oral communications to describe, present, and or critique their work. Attain effective skills in oral and written communication, quantitative reasoning, and the use of information technology.
  • Be able to assemble a body or collection of work in a coherent form (that communicates a particular intention) for portfolios, exhibitions, or presentations.
  • Be able to work and learn both independently and collaboratively.
  • Use a range of materials to visualize ideas in original ways. Learn to think critically to solve problems.
  • Understand the diverse ways of thinking that underlie the search for knowledge in the arts, humanities, sciences, and social sciences.
  • Expand their understanding and appreciation of human creativity and diverse forms of aesthetic and intellectual expression.
  • Become aware of how their work can intersect with local, national, and international communities and issues.​

Second Writing Requirement:


A Second Writing Requirement  approved by the College of Arts and Sciences. This course must be taken after completion of 60 credit hours, completed with a minimum grade of C-, and the section enrolled must be designated as satisfying the requirement in the academic term completed.

College of Arts and Sciences Breadth Requirements:


The College Breadth Requirements are taken in addition to the University Breadth Requirement. Up to three credits from each of the University Breadth Requirement categories may be used to simultaneously satisfy these College of Arts and Sciences Breadth Requirements. If the grade earned is sufficient, a course may be applied toward more than one requirement, but the credits are counted only once towards graduation credits. If all but one couse in a group has been taken in one department or program, a course crosslisted with that department or program will not satisfy the distribution requirement. College Breadth courses must be completed with a minimum grade of C-.

Major Requirements:


The BFA in Visual Communications degree requires a minimum of 76 credit hours minimum of art courses and 86 credit hours maximum. Minimum grade C- required.

Art History:


  • Of the total credits required for the degree, twelve credits must be of Art History (minimum grade C-).

After required courses are completed, sufficient elective credits must be taken to meet the minimum credit requirement for the degree.
