MUSC 212 - Narratives of Western Classical Music

Introduces students to historiography using the lens of narrative. Each semester will focus on a theme or topic that allows for the exploration of major historical eras, individuals, styles, and compositional trends within the history of Western classical music beginning with medieval Europe and culminating in the global present. Special attention will be given to the impact that issues of race, gender, class, and sexuality have on our construction and understanding of music history.
