Management - Human Resources Concentration (BS)

Knowledge Base in Management: Students will demonstrate a basic knowledge of management-related theory and research by being able to recall, name, and describe common concepts in the following general domains:

1. Organizational behvaior

2. Human resource management

3. Strategic management 

Critical Thinking and Adaptive Decision-Making Skills: Students will be able to recognize, critically analyze, and evaluate options related to current and future management situations, including managing change by:

1. Applying management-related concepts and theories to personal and work experiences.

2. Analyzing and recommending solutions to common challenges using management-related concepts and theories as justification.

3. Evaluating other recommendations and analyses that address management-related challenges.

4. Assessing current and future workplace and industry trends.

Human Resource Management Competencies. Students will demonstrate collaborative, communication and presentation competencies necessary for human resource managers, including:

1. Personnel skills such as employee recruitment, performance management, and change management. 

2. Teamwork skills such as leadership, followership, coordination, and communication.

3. Presentation skills such as collecting data, citing appropriate research, and presenting information in a clear, organized, succinct, and professional manner for experienced and lay audiences in oral, visual, and written mediums.

Major Requirements:


Some of the University requirements may be met by the Major Requirements. Students should consult with their advisor. All required courses for the major will have a grade minimum of C-. This includes all breadth classes and other required coursework (besides free elective courses).

Breadth Requirements:


C- required for all courses in breadth requirements.

Note:

ACCT 302  or MISY 225  may be substituted for MISY 261 , and ACCT 350  and ACCT 351  may be substituted for ACCT 352 , if completing a double major with Accounting.

Professional Electives:


  • One ACCT, BUAD, ECON, ENTR, FINC, MISY or SPTM course (at the 300-level or higher), including cross-lists. (three credits)
    • One ECON course at the 300-level or higher and/or one ENTR course may be applied to the Professional Electives. If ECON is used as a Professional Elective, an ECON may NOT be used as an International course.
    • ACCT 302, ACCT 350 and ACCT 351 do not count toward this Professional Electives requirement.
    • Courses used to satisfy other major requirements may not satisfy this Professional Elective requirement.

Human Resources Concentration Requirements:


Complete the following 4 courses:


Note for BUAD429, Human-Resource management related topic area only. Should be approved by academic advisor. 

Electives:


After required courses are completed, sufficient credits must be taken to meet the minimum credits required for the degree and no more than two credits can be from BHAN 120. Only one of MISY 261  or ACCT 302  will count toward minimum total credits in this major.
