Mission
The College of Health Sciences includes the Departments of Health Behavior & Nutrition Sciences, Kinesiology and Applied Physiology, Medical and Molecular Sciences, Physical Therapy, Communication Sciences and Disorders, the School of Nursing, and the Epidemiology program. Undergraduate major degree programs are offered in Applied Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, Kinesiology, Health Behavior Science, Human Physiology, Medical Diagnostics, Medical Laboratory Science, Nursing, Nutrition, Nutrition and Dietetics, Nutrition and Medical Sciences, and Sports Health.
Students in the College are encouraged to engage in undergraduate research projects, internships, study abroad, seminars, and the College’s numerous student organizations. Students interested in such opportunities should consult with their faculty advisor. For more information, visit www.udel.edu/chs, or email chs-advise@udel.edu.
Advisement
Students are assigned an academic advisor who provides advice on course selection, degree requirements, career opportunities, and graduate study. Academic advisors can also assist with setting up special opportunities such as internships and research experiences. It is recommended that students meet with their academic advisors at least once each semester. The College of Health Sciences Undergraduate Student Services office also provides advisement to students who experience academic difficulties or who require additional guidance or information.
Courses taken pass/fail cannot be used to complete major requirements in the College of Health Sciences unless those courses are only offered on a pass/fail basis. Courses normally offered for a standard letter grade which are taken pass/fail may only be counted for free elective credit.
Academic Enrichment Opportunities
Students in most of the College’s majors are eligible to participate in the University’s Honors Program, undergraduate research, and Degree with Distinction. Honors Degrees are available to students in programs offered by the Departments of Health Behavior & Nutrition Sciences, Kinesiology and Applied Physiology, Medical and Molecular Sciences, and the School of Nursing.
The Dean’s Scholar Program exists to serve the needs of students with clearly defined educational goals that cannot effectively be achieved by pursuing the standard curricula for all existing majors, minors, and interdepartmental majors sponsored by the University. Driven by an overarching passion or curiosity that transcends typical disciplinary bounds and curricula, a Dean’s Scholar’s intellectual interests may lead to broad interdisciplinary explorations of an issue or to more intense, in-depth studies in a single field at a level akin to graduate work. The Dean’s Scholar Program exists to serve the needs of these extraordinary students by allowing them to design, in consultation with faculty advisors, imaginative and rigorous individual plans of study to meet the total credit hours required for graduation. It is expected that the course of study outlined by the Dean’s Scholar candidate will represent a program that cannot be effectively achieved using other options already available within the University.
