4+1 Bachelors with MS in Computer Science
Admission Requirements:
Students apply to the 4+1 program in the spring semester of their junior year, or when they have completed 75 credits toward their undergraduate degree. Minimum grade average of 3.2 in the major field of study and an overall cumulative index of 3.0 is required. Scholarly competence in the following areas of computer science and mathematics, described as follows:
- structured high-level programming (for example, CISC 106 , CISC 108 , or equivalent),
- systems programming (for example, CISC 210 or equivalent),
- data structures (for example, CISC 220 or equivalent),
- calculus (for example, MATH 241 or equivalent) or statistics (for example, STAT 200 or MATH 205 or equivalent) or discrete math (for example, MATH 210 or equivalent).
Requirements for the Degree:
Qualified University of Delaware undergraduate students may begin work toward their Master of Science in Computer Science (MS) as a senior, and complete the Master’s degree in as little as one year. The program is limited to University of Delaware undergraduates pursuing a BS or BA in Computer Science, or the BS in Information Systems. In addition, consideration will be given to all Bachelor degree candidates who have a primary designation within the College of Engineering. Only full-time students at the time of application are eligible. Students must have completed at least 90 credits toward their undergraduate degree prior to actual enrollment in the program. Up to 6 credits of graduate course work (600 level and above) taken while an undergraduate, may be “dual-counted” toward the Bachelor’s and the Master’s degrees. The dual-counted courses must be established classes in computer and information sciences at the 600 level and above. Independent study or research cannot be dual-counted. For additional graduate courses to transfer they must be:
- In excess of the total required for the baccalaureate degree
- Grades of no less than B-
- Courses for transfer must not be older than five years.
Students may choose the non-thesis or the thesis option. The thesis option may require more time.
Students must fulfill all the requirements for both degrees.
