Exceptional Children and Youth - Secondary Special Education - MPCP SEC (MEd)

1. Students choose one the following three concentrations:

Elementary special education, secondary special education, or autism/severe disabilities.

2. Preliminary Coursework

Complete an additional 6 credits of preliminary coursework (EDUC 697  and EDUC 753 ) in addition to the 33 graduate credits.

3. Required Core Courses (18 credit hours):

• EDUC 623 - Applied Human Development in the Schools (3cr.)

•  

• EDUC 754 - Special Education Instruction and Curriculum: Elementary (3cr.) or
• EDUC 674 - Special Education Instruction & Curriculum: Secondary (3cr.) or
• EDUC 625 - Special Education Instruction/Curriculum: Autism/Severe (3cr.)

•  

• EDUC 680 - Educational Evaluation: Exceptional Children & Youth (3cr.)
• EDUC 681 - Techniques for Behavior Change and Positive Behavior Support (3cr.)
• EDUC 682 - Special Issues in Special Education (3cr.)
• EDUC 745 - Collaborative Teaming in Special Education (3cr.)

4. Concentration Coursework (15 credit hours):

Students take 15 credits in their concentration and descriptions of the required courses in each area are available online at www.education.udel.edu/masters/exceptional-childrenand-youth/mpcp/.

5. State-Designated Content Area Knowledge Test

Students seeking initial certification must show evidence of having taken a state-designated content area knowledge test (e.g., Praxis II) no later than when they have completed 27 credit hours in the program.

6. Complete 6 credits of Graduate Teaching Internship

• EDUC 750 - Graduate Teaching Internship (3 to 9cr.)

7. Complete a non-course Final Paper requirement.
