The interdisciplinary journalism minor emphasizes the fundamentals of information gathering, writing, and producing news stories across the various forms of media, from print to broadcast. Students gain the skills needed for internships and careers in the field while exploring the foundation of news literacy and experiential learning. The minor is open to all students to gain the skills needed for internships and careers in journalism while complimenting the skills needed for other careers. Students go on to work at newspapers, local and national television stations, radio stations, magazines, and jobs in politics and more.
The minor is open to all students, regardless of their major, from across all colleges. Coursework requires 18 credits - 9 hours of required courses and 9 hours of electives - and must include at least two courses outside a student’s major field.
