Hospitality Business Management
The degree provides preparation for students interested in careers that include managing and/or owning restaurants, hotels and other hospitality businesses such as event planning, country clubs, casinos, food-service operations, and resorts. Students benefit from experience driven learning in our two learning labs on campus; the Courtyard by Marriott Hotel and our student-operated Vita Nova gourmet Restaurant.
Hospitality Industry Management
The degree provides preparation for students interested in careers in hospitality consulting, real estate development, and corporate services. This customizable degree emphasizes developing analytical skills for decision making in a variety of hospitality business environments. Students identify a customized focus area that provides a set of core competencies in their area of interest. Examples of focus areas include revenue management, real estate development, e-commerce, service marketing, and sustainability management.
An integral part of the curriculum for both majors is the hospitality-related work experience. This includes 700 hours of documented paid work experience coupled with 100 hours of community service.
Students in the department have the opportunity to participate in a 4+1 MBA program. With careful planning, academically eligible students can complete both their undergraduate degree in Hospitality Business Management or Hospitality Industry Management and the MBA degree in five years of academic study.
Sport Management
The Bachelor of Science degree prepares students for career opportunities in the sports industry. The majority of those opportunities are in the areas of sales and marketing, leadership and management, finance, and operations within the sports industry. An integral part of the curriculum is the Sport Management Capstone Internship. Students will complete 450 hours at a pre-approved sport related internship site.
