A partnership between the Division of Professional and Continuing Studies (PCS) and the Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics, this noncredit, stackable certificate program in Competitive Intelligence and Analytics (CIA) equips professionals with the skills to transform data into actionable insights for strategic decision-making in global markets. Competitive intelligence is critical for organizations navigating dynamic industries, technological disruptions, and geopolitical shifts. This program emphasizes ethical practices, cutting-edge tools (including generative AI), and real-world applications to prepare participants for roles in CI, strategic planning, market analysis, and innovation management.
This professional noncredit certificate in Competitive Intelligence and Analytics is intended for anyone who wishes to develop and hone strategic analytical skills and competitive market and technology insights.
Our proposal is supported by market research, conducted in 2024 by UD’s Division of Professional and Continuing Studies. This market research found limited competitive intelligence programs within a 100-mile radius of University of Delaware, particularly university-based noncredit programming. Yet the need for CI professionals has been increasing steadily in the surrounding industries such as Pharmaceutical, Biotech, Banking and Health care/insurance industries. We aim to fill that gap with a noncredit certificate program designed to be flexible and have broad appeal.
All required courses are developed and instructed by leading UD faculty experts in competitive intelligence as well as world renown veteran practitioners, including Dr. Qingjiu (Tom) Tao, and Dr. Craig Fleisher.
The certificate program consists of three stackable courses. Thus, students wishing to earn the certificate in Competitive Intelligence will be required to complete a total of three individual courses, yet students might also take courses as standalone experiences if they wish. As they successfully complete each individual course, students will earn a digital badge to recognize their course completion. Once all three courses are completed, the participants will “stack” all of the completed courses and earn a digital certificate of completion in Competitive Intelligence and Analytics.
The design of this certificate program offers participants the ultimate flexibility and accessibility to complete the program requirements based on their individual professional development needs. The program curriculum balances theory and practice, consisting of courses that can be taken individually in any order or stacked together into a certificate.
