Mission

The College of Agriculture & Natural Resources (CANR) at the University of Delaware is committed to advancing human understanding through results-driven science that addresses critical global challenges related to food production, environmental sustainability, and the stewardship of natural resources. Today’s demand for skilled agriculture and natural resource professionals has never been greater. With strong job prospects and an urgent need to address issues such as food security, climate change, and sustainable development, CANR prepares students to make meaningful contributions through flexible, high-demand academic programs, hands-on learning, and world-class research opportunities.

CANR’s innovative curricula prepare students to adapt to rapid developments in agriculture, environmental protection, food safety, and natural resource management. Students integrate business, science, education, and technology to solve real-world challenges, preparing them for diverse careers in marketing, management, scientific research, animal and plant health, communications, and product development.

With a strong tradition of academic excellence, a renowned faculty, and thousands of successful alumni worldwide, CANR offers students unmatched hands-on learning experiences, including the use of a 350-acre working farm, and personalized mentorship. Frequent advisor meetings help students progress efficiently toward their academic and professional goals.

Advisement

Undergraduate majors are offered in agriculture and natural resources, animal biosciences, animal science, environmental and resource economics, food and agribusiness marketing and management, food science, insect ecology and conservation, landscape architecture, plant science, pre-veterinary medicine, statistics, sports performance analytics, sustainable food systems, and wildlife ecology and conservation.

Students should note that courses taken under the pass/fail option may not be used to satisfy major or group requirements, but may count as free electives.

Academic Enrichment Opportunities

College faculty encourage and support students to pursue Degrees with Distinction, take courses in the University Honors Program, and participate in the Summer Scholars research program.

The Associate in Science Degree

The College of Agriculture and Natural Resources offers a two-year Associate in Science (AS) degree at the Newark campus. This program is ideal for students interested in agriculture who wish to complete a degree in two years or who are exploring their options for further education. Admission requirements for the associate degree are the same as those for the baccalaureate degree.
