Sports Performance Analytics (BS)

Graduates of the Sports Performance Analytics Major will be able to:

1)      Demonstrate understanding of mathematical and analytical techniques used in sporting applications, particularly as they relate to athlete and team generated data.  

2)      Apply statistical and economic models, statistical analyses, and advanced statistical inference to sports performance and competition applications.

3)      Apply predictive modeling techniques and analysis to sports data to improve athlete and team performance metrics. 

4)      Analyze and interpret athlete data from wearable and other biometric technologies to guide the improvement of  athlete performance

5)      Demonstrate proficiency in various modern programming languages and statistical software to manipulate data and facilitate statistical computing.

6)      Exercise well-developed critical thinking and oral and written communication skills in order to provide effective analysis of real-world questions

7)      Demonstrate responsible and ethical professional conduct, especially as related to data privacy and security, that respects diverse perspectives and promotes inclusivity. 

8)     Demonstrate hands-on experience with the collection and analysis of athlete and team data in a real-time, competitive environment, including the ability to develop and implement data informed practices in an organizational setting.

Required Courses for Sports Performance Analytics

Mathematics Option


Students must take either the sequence of MATH231 and MATH232 or take MATH241.

Sports Performance Analytics Restricted Electives


Students must take 9 credits from the following list.  Note: Students can take whichever of APEC310 or APEC315 that they did not take for the above requirement as a restricted elective.

After required courses are completed, sufficient elective credits must be taken to meet the minimum credit requirement for the degree.
