Fintech (BS)

The Fintech (Financial Technology) major at the University of Delaware established the following learning objectives based on the guiding principles established by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) to ensure student success. The program uses course grades and assessments of assignments to ensure that these objectives are met.

Graduates of the Fintech major from the University of Delaware will be able to:

Apply financial theories to demonstrate an understanding of financial markets, instruments, products and services, and the valuation of businesses and securities.

Employ analytical and programming tools in financial applications.

Use the core concepts and technologies underpinning Fintech to develop and implement Fintech solutions that address challenges and opportunities within the financial industry.

Assess the ethical implications of Fintech innovations, taking into account the legal and regulatory frameworks governing fintech.

ENGL 110 - First-Year Writing (C- minimum)
First Year Seminar (FYS) (0-4 credits)
Discovery Learning Experience (DLE) (three credits)
Multicultural Requirement (three credits)
University Breadth Requirements (C- minimum):

Capstone Experience

Major requirements

All required courses for the major will have a grade minimum of C-. This includes all breadth classes and other required coursework (besides free elective courses).

Applicability of transfer coursework to Lerner majors: Coursework at the 300-level or higher may be transferred from AACSB-accredited institutions only unless credit is earned through an approved articulation agreement or approved study abroad program. Courses at the 100- and 200-level may be transferred from any institution following UD’s standard transfer credit policy.

Only one of the following courses may be transferred: FINC 311, FINC 314, FINC 330, FINC 430, FINC 431, FINC 439, MISY 225, MISY 331, MISY 436, MISY 455.

Only two of the following courses may be transferred:ACCT 207, ACCT 315, ACCT 352, BUAD 301, BUAD 306, BUAD 309, BUAD 441, ECON 101, ECON 103, ECON 308, MISY 160, MISY 261, MISY 262.

MISY 445 must be completed at the University of Delaware.

Major breadth requirements

Twelve credits of Creative Arts and Humanities, and/or History and Cultural Change, and/or foreign language courses. Foreign language courses can include ARAB, FREN, CHIN, GRMN, GREK, HEBR, ITAL, JAPN, KORE, LATN, PORT, RUSS, SPAN at the 100-level or above. Courses used to fulfill the University breadth requirements above may also be used to fulfill this major breadth requirement.

Six credits of Social and Behavioral Sciences. Courses used to fulfill the University breadth requirements above may also be used to fulfill this major breadth requirement excluding ECON 101, ECON 103, BUAD 301 and BUAD 309.

Seven credits of Mathematics, Natural Sciences, and Technology (CISC, MATH, and STAT courses do not apply), with one associated laboratory credit. After required courses are completed, sufficient credits must be taken to meet the minimum credits required for the degree. Electives courses can be chosen from inside or outside the Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics, and no more than two credits from HBNS 120 may apply.
