Program Educational Goals
A major in Management Information Systems - Finance Concentration will prepare students to:
1. Understand how businesses can use information systems, databases, and business intelligence tools as a strategic advantage
2. Code a solution to a business problem using a modern programming language
3. Design and implement a data communications system based on business requirements
4. Model and create databases based on business requirements and query databases using query languages
5. Design and implement a web-based solution to a business problem
6. Analyze proposed and/or existing systems and model various aspects of the system
7. Apply the stages of system development to build functional, structural, and behavioral models of a proposed and/or existing system.
8. Solve real-world business problems and build leadership and team management skills
9. Implement project management methodologies and best practices
10. Communicate with business partners to solve real business challenges
11. Gain subject matter expertise in finance to create information systems for finance related problems.

Management Information Systems Major Requirements:
MIS Breadth and College Requirements:
All required courses for the major will have a grade minimum of C-. This includes all breadth classes and other required coursework (besides free elective courses). Applicability of transfer coursework to Lerner majors: Coursework at the 300-level or higher may be transferred from AACSB-accredited institutions only unless credit is earned through an approved articulation agreement or approved study abroad program. Courses at the 100- and 200-level may be transferred from any institution following UD’s standard transfer credit policy. Only one of the following courses may be transferred: MISY 160, MISY 225, MISY 261, MISY 330, MISY 350, MISY 360, MISY 427, MISY 430, MISY 431. Only two of the following courses may be transferred: ACCT 207, ACCT 208, BUAD 301, BUAD 306, BUAD 309, ECON 101, ECON 103, FINC 311. MISY 432, MISY elective courses and three of the four concentration courses must be completed at the University of Delaware.

- Twelve credits of Creative Arts and Humanities and/or History and Cultural Change and/or foreign language courses. Foreign language courses can include ARAB, FREN, CHIN, GRMN, GREK, HEBR, ITAL, JAPN, KORE, LATN, PORT, RUSS, SPAN at the 100-level or above. Courses used to fulfill the University breadth requirements above may also be used to fulfill this major breadth requirement.
- Six credits from Social and Behavioral Sciences. Courses used to fulfill the University breadth requirements above may also be used to fulfill this major breadth requirement, excluding ECON 101, ECON 103, BUAD 301, and BUAD 309
- Six credits of Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Technology. Courses used to fulfill the University breadth requirements above may also be used to fulfill this major breadth requirement, excluding CISC, STAT, 100-level MATH, MATH 221, MATH 230, MATH 231, MATH 232, and MATH 241.
MIS Core:
Minimum grade of C-. No more than two required MISY courses (including electives) may be transferred from another AACSB institution.
MIS Electives:
Nine credits of MISY courses 300-level or above (excluding the MISY core courses listed above). Students in the Business Analytics Minor cannot use BUAD 345 or MISY 445 /BUAD 445 as MISY elective credit. Students must achieve a minimum grade of C- to qualify as an MISY elective. Cross-listed classes may apply.
