Entomology and Wildlife Ecology (PhD)


Students who successfully complete the Entomology and Wildlife Ecology PhD program will be able to:

  1. Write and present a research proposal addressing a question or problem in the fields of entomology and/or wildlife ecology.
  2. Demonstrate breadth and depth of knowledge in the biology, ecology, evolution and taxonomy of insects and wildlife, current statistical approaches in the discipline, and advanced knowledge in the student’s area of specialization.
  3. Conduct, analyze, write, and present the results of their original research in a dissertation.
  4. Conduct and defend original research at a level consistent with that seen at professional conferences and in peer-reviewed journals in the discipline, and the body of work reflects their ability to report the results in a manner worthy of publication.

Doctor of Philosopy Degree Requirements:


Doctoral students entering the program with an MS must complete a total of at least 30 graduate credits.

Doctoral Students in Entomology and Wildlife Ecology must complete the following courses or their equivalent either before or during their program at Delaware:

If any of the above course requirements are completed before starting the PhD program, substitute courses counting toward the total minimum credits must be approved by the student’s graduate committee. Students entering with a B.S. must complete a total of at least 60 graduate credits while enrolled in the program. A maximum of 6 credits in ENWC 666 , ENWC 668, ENWC 866 , ENWC 868 , and 9 credits of ENWC 969  can be applied to the doctoral degree.

Additional Coursework


Students must earn additional graduate credit hours appropriate to the major to bring the total earned to at least 30 credits. A maximum of 6 credits in ENWC 666, 668, 866 and 868 can be applied to the doctoral degree.
