Biomedical Engineering (MS)


Requirements for the Degree:


The MS program in Biomedical Engineering consists of 30 credits of graduate level course work, including 6 credits of Master’s Thesis if electing the Thesis option. The program allows for considerable flexibility in course selection. The MS program with thesis option also requires completion of an approved Master’s Thesis. If a student is switching into the MS program after initially being in the PhD program, they must submit a Change of Major/Concentration or Degree Form to the Graduate College.

Technical Electives:


MS (thesis option) students–12 credits

  • Choose 4 courses from the list of technical electives , of which at least one must be a 600-level or higher BMEG technical elective.

MS (non-thesis option) students–18 credits

  • Choose 6 courses from the list of technical electives , of which at least one must be a 600-level or higher BMEG technical elective.
  • Students electing the non-thesis option may use up to 6 credits of BMEG 868  toward the 18-unit technical elective requirement.

Thesis Option:


The MS program with thesis option requires completion of an approved Master’s Thesis. This includes approval of the written thesis and an oral defense of the thesis. MS students who elect the thesis option must complete six credits of Master’s Thesis study.
