Economics and Entrepreneurship for Educators (MA)

Program Educational Goals:

  1. Solidify educators' understanding of the economic principles and policies needed to teach economics at the elementary and secondary school levels.

 

  1. Gain and demonstrate a basic understanding of personal finance and entrepreneurship principles.

 

  1. Enhance educators’ ability to design effective economics, personal finance, and entrepreneurship education curricula.

 

  1. Communicate effectively about economics, personal finance, and entrepreneurship ideas, issues, and analyses with other educators, school administrators, and government officials.

 

  1. Explore methods to incorporate economics in other courses such as math and social studies.

Requirements


The MA degree requires 30 credit hours of graduate work, 18 of which are in five required areas: microeconomics, macroeconomics, monetary and international trade theories, contemporary economic issues, and curriculum strategies. In addition, candidates must design and implement an economic education program.

Elective Courses:


Additional graduate level elective (6 credits) is required for the completion of the degree. Elective Courses can be any pre-approved graduate-level ECON, ENTR, or EDUC course. With the approval of the program director, other graduate courses can be used to satisfy elective requirements.
