Requirements for the Master’s Degree:
The M.S. degree in Mathematics can be earned through one of two options: 30 credits of graduate level coursework; or 24 credits of graduate level coursework and 6 credits for research and thesis in the final semester. The Master’s thesis must be successfully completed and defended.
To be eligible for the degree, an M.S. candidate (including 4+1 B.S./M.S. students) must complete 30 credits of course work beyond the Bachelor’s degree.
The Master’s thesis must be successfully defended (see Section 3.1.2 of Policy document). One or more of the requirements above may be waived upon petitioning the Graduate Studies Committee. Credit hours for which the grade is below C-minus do not count toward a graduate degree.
Students in the 4+1 B.S./M.S. program may count up to six credits of coursework toward both their B.S. and M.S. degrees. This coursework must consist of MATH 600 level classes or above, and not otherwise be restricted by the catalog.
