Management Information Systems - Accounting Concentration (BS)

Program Educational Goals


A major in Management Information Systems - Accounting Concentration will prepare students to:

1.     Understand how businesses can use information systems, databases, and business intelligence tools as a strategic advantage 

2.     Code a solution to a business problem using a modern programming language

3.     Design and implement a data communications system based on business requirements

4.     Model and create databases based on business requirements and query databases using query languages 

5.     Design and implement a web-based solution to a business problem

6.     Analyze proposed and/or existing systems and model various aspects of the system

7.     Apply the stages of system development to build functional, structural, and behavioral models of a proposed and/or existing system.

8.     Solve real-world business problems and build leadership and team management skills

9.     Implement project management methodologies and best practices

10.  Communicate with business partners to solve real business challenges 

11. Gain subject matter expertise in accounting to create information systems for accounting related problems.

MIS Breadth and College Requirements:


All required courses for the major will have a grade minimum of C-. This includes all breadth classes and other required coursework (besides free elective courses).

MIS Electives:


Nine credits of MISY courses 300-level or above (excluding the MISY core courses listed above).  Students in the Business Analytics Minor  cannot use BUAD 345  or MISY 445 /BUAD 445  as MISY elective credit. Students must achieve a minimum grade of C- to qualify as an MISY elective. Cross-listed classes may apply.  




Electives:


After required courses are completed, sufficient elective credits must be taken to meet the minimum credit requirement for the degree.
