Program Educational Goals:

Major Requirements:


All required courses for the major will have a grade minimum of C-. This includes all breadth classes and other required coursework (besides free elective courses).

Advanced Language Studies:


Fifteen credits of Advanced Language Studies.

  • Nine credits of 200-level and above and six credits of 300-level and above selected from the following eight languages:
    • Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Russian, or Spanish
    • It is recommended that one of these be a business language course, depending upon the language of choice.
  • All International Business Studies majors must complete a fall or spring semester abroad studying in a region of the world consistent with their language of choice. 

Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Technology Requirement:


Seven credits of Mathematics, Natural Sciences, and Technology  (CISC, MATH, and STAT courses do not apply). Includes one associated laboratory credit. Courses used to fulfill the University breadth requirements above may also be used to fulfill this major breadth requirement. You can complete one of the following for the laboratory credit:

Regional Coursework:


Six credits of courses in the fields of Anthropology, Art History, Geography, History, Languages, Literatures and Cultures, Philosophy, and Political Science and International Relations related to a region of the world consistent with the student’s language of choice: Arabic (ARAB), Chinese (CHIN), French (FREN), German (GRMN), Italian (ITAL), Japanese (JAPN), Russian (RUSS), Spanish (SPAN).

International Business Studies Coursework:


C- or above required for all courses. Of the required upper division international business studies courses (BUAD384, BUAD386, ACCT395, BUAD391, BUAD393, BUAD394, BUAD425, BUAD475, ECON311, ECON342, FINC392, SPTM416), no more than 1 can be transferred from another AACSB-accredited institution unless permission is granted from credit earned in residential study abroad courses. 

IBS Electives:


9 credits. C- or above required for all courses.

Study Abroad Contingency

*Course is offered in the curriculum of a Winter or Summer Study Abroad program. The IBS Major may select one course (3 credit) from those with this designation.

Professional Electives:


Nine credits of 300-level or higher ACCT, BUAD, ENTR, FINC, MISY, or SPMT courses or one ECON 200-level or higher. C- or above required. Cross-listed courses may apply. Courses used to satisfy other major requirements may not satisfy this Professional Elective requirement.

Electives:


After required courses are completed, sufficient credits must be taken to meet the minimum credits required for the degree. These credits may be 100-level language courses and no more than two credits can be from HBNS 120 . Only one of MISY 261 or ACCT 302  will count toward total credits.
