Medical Diagnostics (BS)


Program Educational Goals


Students who successfully complete the Medical Diagnostics (BS) will be able to:

  1. Utilize scientific principles (e.g., physiology, immunology, biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, microbiology, hematology, etc.) as applicable for the healthcare arena.
  2. Interpret clinical significance, laboratory test data, and test utilization accurately.
  3. Utilize principles of quality assurance and quality improvement for all phases of laboratory services, i.e., pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical focusing on patient safety.
  4. Communicate, through oral and written skills, effectively and professionally to enable consultative and educational interactions with healthcare personnel, the public, and patients to function successfully as a member of the healthcare team.
  5. Demonstrate ethical behavior and professionalism, maintain confidentiality of patient information, and participate in continuing education for professional career development.
  6. Function in a culturally diverse, global society that demonstrates variations in intellectual expression and human creativity.

Major Requirements:


NOTE: Coursework used to satisfy other major requirements may simultaneously satisfy the second writing and/or additional breadth requirements when eligible.

Second Writing Requirement:


A Second Writing Requirement  approved by the College of Arts and Sciences. This course must be completed with a minimum grade of C-, and the section enrolled must be designated as satisfying the requirement in the academic term completed.



English:


  • Any English course at the 200-level or above.
    • Many English courses also can satisfy the Creative Arts and Humanities Breadth requirement and/or the Second Writing Course requirement.

Additional Breadth Requirements:


From the list of University breadth courses, an additional three credits must be taken to meet the requirements for the major:
