Exceptional Children and Youth - Secondary Special Education - 4+1 SEC (BSEd/MEd)

Open to students with ETE majors with middle school concentrations or any of the secondary education majors from Arts & Sciences.
|
Requirements in the 4+1 tracks include:
1. Students choose one the following three concentrations:
Elementary special education, secondary special education, or autism/severe disabilities.
2. Senior Year Requirements
During the Senior year, they complete 9 graduate credits that may be in lieu of 9 undergraduate credits and complete all remaining undergraduate requirements, including the student teaching experience. During the +1 year, students complete 24 graduate credits, which includes 6 credits of graduate teaching internship (EDUC 750).
3. Secondary Special Education Concentration
Students in the secondary special education concentration complete the following required courses (33 credits) in addition to EDUC 415:
- EDUC 653 - Assistive Technology: High Incidence Disabilities (3cr.)
- EDUC 658 - Discipline and Classroom Management (3cr.)
- EDUC 673 - School-to-Adult Life Transitions ad Disability (3cr.)
- EDUC 674 - Special Education Instruction & Curriculum: Secondary (3cr.)
- EDUC 680 - Educational Evaluation: Exceptional Children & Youth (3cr.)
- EDUC 681 - Techniques for Behavior Change and Positive Behavior Support (3cr.)
- EDUC 682 - Special Issues in Special Education (3cr.)
- EDUC 745 - Collaborative Teaming in Special Education (3cr.)
- EDUC 750 - Graduate Teaching Internship (3 to 9cr.)
- EDUC 757 - Diagnosis and Instruction In Literacy (3cr.)
4. Complete a non-course Final Paper requirement.
