4+1 BA/BS with MS in Data Science

The Department offers 4+1 BS/MS and BA/MS programs that allow students to complete both the Bachelor’s degree in any undergraduate major administered by the Department and the interdisciplinary Master of Science degree in Data Science in a total of five years of full-time study. The application to this option is reviewed by the executive committee of the MSDS program.  All requirements of both degree programs must be satisfied. Up to six credits of graduate coursework in the mathematical sciences may be applied toward satisfying the requirements of both degrees.

Students applying to a 4+1 BA/MS or BS/MS program must be in their junior year of study at the University of Delaware, enrolled in a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree program administered by the Department of Mathematical Sciences, must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.2, a GPA of at least 3.4 in their major, and must have completed at least two mathematics courses at or above the 400 level. The application process requires two letters of recommendation, which must be written by University of Delaware faculty, and academic transcripts. The expected background requirements for the MSDS program must be completed and the UD Bachelor’s degree must be awarded before a student can register in the +1 year of the 4+1 program.
