Museum Studies and Public Engagement Certificate
The Museum Studies and Public Engagement Program graduate certificate program combines study in museology and public engagement with a broad selection of associated academic disciplines. The Program mission is to provide leadership training in all areas of museum and related public-facing work with a concentration on museums, historical societies, archives and libraries, galleries, other organizations with collections and/or public educational programming. These organizations form an integral part of the non-profit sector, offering educational, cultural and entertainment opportunities to a large, diverse, and ever-changing public audience. The Program places prime emphasis on learning in a related academic discipline, supplemented by concentrated exposure to the theory, methodology and practice of museology and public engagement. The graduate certificate complements graduate degree programs in history, English, art history, art, Africana studies, business administration, liberal studies and other academic disciplines, and the graduate fellowship programs jointly sponsored by the University and the Hagley Museum and Library (History of Capitalism), and the Winterthur Museum, Garden and Library (Early American Culture; Art Conservation). It enjoys a close working relationship with the University Museum and other area museums.
