Department Overview
The department is ranked among the top ten programs in the United States. The hospitality faculty possesses relevant and highly accomplished academic backgrounds in the sub-areas of hospitality business management such as information technology, strategic management, financial management, e-marketing, human resource management, and project planning. Our programs focus on problem-solving and decision-making skills in response to the rapid growth of information management needs in the hospitality and business sectors of industry.
MS Hospitality Business Management
Program Overview
We offer a non-thesis MS in Hospitality Business Management which must be completed within three semesters and a two-year thesis MS in Hospitality Business Management. See additional information about the program on the MS Hospitality Business Management programs page.
Successful MS candidates who choose to continue their studies and qualify for the MBA at the Lerner College of Business and Economics can complete a dual degree (MBA/MS Hospitality Business Management) with the completion of 50 credits. Students who plan their studies effectively can complete the dual degree in a minimum of two years.
Requirements for Admission
Admission to the program is selective and competitive. Please refer to the admissions information for the MS Hospitality Business Management program page and the Graduate Admissions page for more information. Those who meet stated minimum academic requirements are not guaranteed admission, nor are those who fail to meet those requirements necessarily precluded from admission if they offer other appropriate strengths.
Candidates for admission need not have majored in hospitality previously, but they will be expected to possess strong written and oral communication skills, quantitative and qualitative analytical abilities, an understanding of business principles as related to products/services, and prior work with word processing and spreadsheets. Appropriate credit and non-credit courses are available at UD to students with a deficiency in any of these areas.
MS Hospitality and Sport Business Analytics
Program Overview
The hospitality, sport, and leisure industries are among the fastest-growing sectors of the U.S. economy. Employers are increasingly searching for applicants with a combination of analytical skills and relevant domain knowledge to address evolving challenges and transition the industry towards effective data-driven decisions. Designed for both working professionals and full-time students, this cutting-edge project-based curriculum will provide students with the skills and knowledge to be future leaders and innovators in the hospitality and sports industries. MS Hospitality and Sport Business Analytics is a STEM-designated program and provides international students with 24 months of OPT (Optional Practical Training) in addition to the original 12 months.

Admission to the program is selective and competitive. Admission decisions are made on a rolling basis. We prefer that students enroll in the fall semester. However, depending on the background of the student, we may occasionally admit in spring. PhD in Hospitality Business Analytics
Program Overview
The PhD in Hospitality Business Analytics provides advanced training to students in data science as it relates to the hospitality industry. Students complete 54 credits of coursework and a qualifying examination before the end of the summer of their third year. Before the end of fall in their second year, each student will identify a faculty member to serve as a major advisor who will guide the student through completion of the course requirements, preparation for candidacy examinations, the dissertation proposal and the dissertation. Requirements for Admission
Applicants admitted to the PhD in Hospitality Business Analytics will have completed the requirements for a master’s degree with at least three years of managerial experience in the hospitality, tourism or related industries. Applicants with bachelor’s degrees will also be considered under exceptional circumstances with demonstrated excellent academic credentials and rich industry experience at the managerial/executive level.
