Mission
The mission of the Department of Finance is to foster scholarship in finance and to offer distinctive, innovative educational opportunities related to the successful management and leadership of organizations operating in an environment of scarce resources, rapid change, global competition and advances in technology.
All programs are accredited by the Middle State Commission on Higher Education and AACSB.
Finance
Professional education in finance serves to develop the capabilities of students so that they may assume positions of leadership and responsibility at all levels of financial management in our society. The undergraduate degree program in Finance reflects the growing demand for greater financial management capability in banking and in the financial services related industries.
Financial Planning & Wealth Management
The major in Financial Planning and Wealth Management serves the needs of students preparing to enter this exciting and growing field. Financial planning has been ranked in recent years as one of the ten best career choices, and employment opportunities are projected to expand rapidly in the coming years. Prospective employers include financial planning firms as well as other companies that provide related products and services such as banks, insurance companies, and brokerage firms.
Only one of the five required upper-level courses in Finance may be taken at another AACSB-accredited institution, unless advance permission is granted.
Trust Management Minor
The minor in trust management encompasses legal, tax, accounting, investment and financial topics pertaining to managing trusts. Students will learn how to build and maintain relationships with trust clients and corporate partners in the field of high net-worth planning. Students will also learn strategies for efficient intergenerational transfer of wealth and achieving clients’ personal estate planning, philanthropic and financial goals.
