An examination of the foundations and development of theories to account for how and why media affect individuals and culture and vice versa - from critical cultural to post-positivist approaches. Specific areas of study include normative approaches to media regulation, theories to account for the effects of media violence and social media, cultivation theory, entertainment theories, cognitive theories, social learning theory, and various media effects theories.
