AFRA 375 - Peoples and Cultures of Contemporary Latin America Credit(s): 4 PEOPLES & CULTRS:MOD LAT AMER Component: Lecture Examines contemporary cultures and societies of Latin America, looking at how history, politics, economy, and globalization shape people’s lives. Case studies of different parts of Latin America delve into such topics as citizenship, the elite, cities and countrysides, pop culture, the military, religion, social justice, and environmental issues. Emphasizes contexts and intersections of race, gender, class, ethnicity, and other social contrasts. Covers the Caribbean, Mexico and Central America, and the Andean, Atlantic, and Southern Cone regions of South America. This 4-credit course with a service learning component fulfills the Discovery Learning Experience requirement.
