Latin American arts and literature of the 20th and 21st centuries. Through readings from avant-garde feminist and Afro-Caribbean poets, the Cannibalist Manifesto, magical-realist and fantastic literature, to Newyorican slam poetry and drag performance, students will gain an understanding of fundamental cultural and historical contexts of Latin America and develop their skills in oral and written Spanish, reading, and textual analysis.
