HIST 152 - American Apocalypse: The Civil War Credit(s): 3 AMERICAN APOCALYPSE: CIVIL WAR Component: Lecture American Apocalypse explores the causes, character, and consequences of the Civil War. We will begin by investigating the deepening estrangement of North and South in the 1830s and 1840s and the pivotal role played by slavery in that process of alienation. Our attention turns next to the decade of the 1850s and the series of crises that propelled the South toward secession in 1861. A consideration of the fighting itself and the impact of military conflict on the Confederate and Union homefronts will follow.
