SOCIOLOGY OF THE BODY
Component: Lecture
Examines the body, not through the lens of the biological sciences, but as the product of complex social arrangements and processes. Considers: What is ‘natural’ about bodies- How are bodies commodified- How are bodies categorized and constituted by discourses of race, class, gender, sexuality, and biomedicine-.
Allowed Units: 3 Grading Basis: Student Option
Crosslisted: May be crosslisted with SGST 425 , WOMS 425 . RESTRICTIONS: Not open to freshmen.
