Mechanical Engineering (MSME)

Program Educational Goals:

The educational goals of the MSME program at the University of Delaware are to impart students with advanced analytical and technical knowledge in the core areas of mechanical engineering while also providing specialized knowledge in new and emerging areas, enabling them to lead successful careers in industry, pursue advanced degrees, and to contribute to the profession and society at large. Graduates of the MSME program will be able to:

• Demonstrate the ability to apply graduate-level mathematics to the solution of engineering problems in the general areas of mechanical engineering.

Requirements for the Degree:

All coursework must be completed with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

Choose three of the following:

MEEG 610 - Intermediate Solid Mechanics Credit(s): 3
MEEG 620 - Intermediate Dynamics Credit(s): 3
MEEG 621 - Linear Systems Credit(s): 3
MEEG 630 - Intermediate Fluid Mechanics Credit(s): 3
MEEG 640 - Intermediate Heat Transfer Credit(s): 3
MEEG 683 - Orthopedic Biomechanics Credit(s): 3

Restricted Electives:

9 credits total; thesis or non-thesis options, plus additional restricted electives. Core requirement elective list and restricted elective list are the same.

Thesis Option
- 6 credits of MEEG 869 - Master’s Thesis are required.
- 3 credits of any course listed below, excluding those used to fulfill the core requirement.
Non-Thesis Option
- 6 credits of MEEG 868 - Research or MEEG 666: Independent Study may be taken. Remaining credits can be taken from core requirements list, excluding those used to fulfill the core requirement.
- Otherwise, all 9 credits must be taken from the list below, excluding those used to fulfill the core requirement.
