…create well-crafted, highly detailed music compositions that are informed by creative thinking, extensive listening, and twentieth/twenty-first century score study and analysis.
Outcomes:
1.1 Students will pursue the advanced development of their compositional craft.
1.2 Students will study, analyze and discuss musical scores from the twentieth/twenty-first centuries.
1.3 Students will present and evaluate their work through rehearsals and concert presentations of their compositions.
Goal 2.
…pursue the development of an individual compositional voice.
Outcomes:
2.1 Students will analyze their compositional craft and goals in terms of aesthetic, theory, socio-culture and artistic medium.
2.2 Students will evaluate the socio-cultural and historical impact of their individual compositional voice.
Goal 3.
…expand their knowledge and understanding of acoustic and digital compositional forces.
Outcomes:
3.1 Students will expand their knowledge of acoustic instrumentation and ensembles.
3.2 Students will expand their knowledge and understanding of digital software and electronic platforms.
3.3 Students will experience both acoustic and digital presentations of their compositions.
Goal 4.
…develop skills and knowledge related to concert presentation, recording, publication and marketing of their compositions.
Outcomes:
4.1 Students will organize, lead and conduct rehearsals of their compositions. The student will also participate as the composer in rehearsals led by other conductors.
4.2 Students will create a portfolio of professional scores and pursue the publication of their compositions.
4.3 Students will learn how to write effective proposals for projects, awards and grants.
4.4 Students will learn how to utilize web and social media platforms for the promotion of their compositions.
Goal 5.
…demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of twentieth/twenty-first century repertoire in their sub concentration.
Outcomes:
5.1 Students will demonstrate advanced knowledge and understanding of the history and development of the repertoire in their sub-concentration.
