Entrepreneurship (BS)


Program Educational Goals:


  1. Students will demonstrate an understanding of the evidence-based entrepreneurship process.
  2. Students will possess an entrepreneurial mindset, providing them the ability to recognize opportunity and the capacity to utilize their means to pursue the creation of value from new ideas.
  3. Students will demonstrate effectiveness in pitching/selling new ideas and bringing people together around a shared vision.
  4. Students will understand the applicability of entrepreneurship education (and especially an entrepreneurial mindset and skillset) to any organizational context.

Area of Specialization:


In addition to completing the core requirements of the Entrepreneurship major, students are required to pursue an area of specialization to augment their entrepreneurial mindset and skill set by developing expertise in a specific discipline or problem domain. This specialization requires a minimum of 15 credit hours, including at least 12 credit hours that are not being counted toward the fulfillment of other entrepreneurship major requirements. 

Area of Specialization Options

Students can choose their area of specialization from the pre-approved list provided below or propose a custom area of specialization. Adding a major or minor from the pre-approved list will require approval through the “change major, minor” webform. Some pre-approved specializations may require more than the 15-credit minimum. Students who choose to pursue a custom specialization - i.e., anything not included in the pre-approved list below - must meet with their academic advisor for approval. 

Declaring Area of Specialization

Students are encouraged to collaborate with their academic advisor as early as possible to ensure that their chosen specialization aligns with their academic and professional aspirations. Students seeking to meet the specialization requirement by completing a double major should declare their intention by completing the “change major, minor” webform no later than October 1 of their sophomore year. Students seeking to complete a pre-approved minor should complete the “change major, minor” webform no later than the spring semester of their sophomore year. And students with a desire for a custom specialization should meet with their academic advisor to craft a tailored study plan that aligns with their unique goals no later than spring semester of their sophomore year.

  • Social Entrepreneurship (add the Social Innovation & Entrepreneurship Minor and complete 15 credits)

Eco-Entrepreneurship:


Add the Eco-Entrepreneurship Certificate and complete 15 credits.

Free Electives:


Free electives may be taken in any department to bring the total credits to the 121 needed for graduation. Students who plan their schedules carefully may be able to substantially increase free elective credits counted toward the total needed for graduation. Free elective courses may be taken on a pass/fail basis, but no more than three credit hours of pass/fail coursework may be completed in any one semester. No more than two credits of  BHAN 120 may apply.

Restrictions:


Entrepreneurship majors may NOT be simultaneously enrolled in the . However, they may double count a maximum of 3 credits toward the fulfillment of requirements for the  or an entrepreneurship-focused certificate. Credits counted toward the fulfillment of University, Technical Competency and Free Elective requirements are EXEMPTED from this restriction and may be double counted to meet the social entrepreneurship minor or certificate requirements.
