Economics (PhD)

Program Educational Goals:


  • Demonstrate mastery in the core areas of economics: microeconomics, macroeconomics, and econometrics.
  • Demonstrate mastery in at least one field of specialization.
  • Produce and defend original and significant contributions to economic knowledge.
  • Be able to present scholarly research clearly and concisely.

Requirements for the Degree:


Students in the Ph.D. program in Economics complete coursework in Economics as outlined below. Students without prior graduate work in economics must complete the requirements of our M.S. in Economics and Applied Econometrics  (30 credits) in addition to satisfying the requirements for the Ph.D. (23 credits). Students will be awarded both degrees upon completion of the requirements.

Seminar Requirement:


All students must register for and attend ECON 890  (zero credit course) and meet established participation requirements.
