Civil Engineering - Transportation Engineering and Civil Infrastructure Systems Concentration (MAS)

Program Educational Goals:


Graduates obtaining the MAS from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering with a concentration in Transportation Engineering and Civil Infrastructure Systems will be able to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of fundamental principles and knowledge of transportation engineering and civil infrastructure systems including transportation system modeling, simulation, and management, railway engineering, system optimization, risk analysis and management, and engineering data analytics.
  • Read, assess, and critically review published literature and research findings in transportation engineering and civil infrastructure systems.
  • Recognize and discuss new techniques, skills, and tools used in transportation engineering and civil infrastructure systems.
  • Communicate transportation engineering and civil infrastructure systems concepts effectively in writing, orally, and graphically.
  • Relate science and engineering concepts and collaborate on interdisciplinary teams to address problems of societal significance.

Degree Requirements


The Master of Applied Sciences (MAS) degree is awarded to students who, upon admission, have a non-engineering undergraduate degree. Students pursuing the MAS degree complete a thesis and declare a concentration.

Formally, the student must perform 24 credit hours of course work and 6 credit hours of thesis. The MAS degree is also suited to those who, upon graduation, wish to pursue their PhD. Students are also required to enroll in the CIEG 865 - Civil Engineering Seminar  each semester.

Concentration Requirements


The Master of Applied Sciences degree with a concentration in Transportation Engineering and Civil Infrastructure Systems requires three core courses in one of the three topic areas listed below and five electives.

Students pursuing any of the three topic areas of the Transportation Engineering and Civil Infrastructure Systems concentration must choose five electives from any of the four categories listed below.  Electives are categorized into groups for informational purposes only.

Note


Students without any computer programming or Computer Science background should take CISC 106, CISC 181 or CISC 220. The College of Engineering also periodically offers courses in technical writing for graduate students. Students should strongly consider these courses when announcements are posted.
