Music - Composition Concentration (MM)

Requirements for the Degree:

Students are required to complete 32 credit hours (maintaining a cumulative grade point average of B or better) to be granted the degree Master of Music: Composition.

Concentration Requirements:

All students take the following:

MUSC 601 - Master’s Recital Credit(s): 1-3 *
MUSC 611 - Studies in Music History Credit(s): 3
MUSC 622 - Materials and Methods of Research Credit(s): 3
MUSC 633 - Still Breathing: The University of Delaware Contemporary Music Ensemble Credit(s): 0-1 **
MUSC 636 - Advanced Choral Conducting Credit(s): 1-3 *
or
MUSC 637 - Advanced Instrumental Conducting Credit(s): 3
MUSC 671 - Advanced Private Study: Composition I Credit(s): 2
MUSC 672 - Advanced Private Study: Composition II Credit(s): 2
MUSC 673 - Advanced Private Study: Composition III Credit(s): 2
MUSC 674 - Advanced Private Study: Composition IV Credit(s): 2
MUSC 684 - Recording and Media Techniques Credit(s): 3
MUSC 685 - Advanced Principles of Music Industry Practice Credit(s): 3
MUSC 695 - Advanced Analysis and Interpretation Credit(s): 3

Note:

*Although MUSC 601 and MUSC 636 are variable 1-3 cr. courses, each must be taken for 3 cr. to satisfy degree requirements.

**Although MUSC 633 is a 1 cr. course, it must be taken three times to satisfy degree requirement; 3 credits of MUSC 633 - Still Breathing: The University of Delaware Contemporary Music Ensemble are required.

Other Requirements:

Toward the end of the course of study, the student must pass an oral examination and complete 3 credits of MUSC 601 - Master’s Recital .
