Program Educational Goals:
Through participation in the Course of Study, World Scholars will be able to:
- identify and communicate effectively the value of their acquired intercultural skills and experiences;
- articulate insights into their own cultural rules and biases, and will demonstrate a sophisticated understanding of the complexities and norms of other cultures and the interconnectedness with their own;
- navigate and adapt to new situations and experiences with an advanced level of comfort, competence and flexibility;
- participate, as engaged and informed citizens, in cross-cultural dialogue, diplomacy and resolution of global issues, and develop relationships with and contribute to a global University community.
Program Requirements:
The World Scholars Program provides a framework for students in a variety of majors to benefit from an enriched academic career with built-in international and intercultural experiences. World Scholars may pursue a number of majors and University Studies but are encouraged to select a globally-focused minor to complement their studies. The four-year Program curriculum includes a limited number of academic requirements with courses, both on-campus and abroad, that complement and serve as graduation requirements. Scholars participate in three orientations in their first year, including summer pre-departure, on-site orientation once abroad, and UD New Student Orientation upon arrival to campus in the spring. Additional workshops and global engagement activities support the World Scholars Program outcomes. Note:
*Students will register for UNIV 373 in the freshman fall term and junior term of their choice.
Other Requirements:
- In their sophomore year, World Scholars are required to reside in the International House Living Learning Community (iHouse LLC).
- As the culminating capstone experience, World Scholars participate in the Spring Symposium, a celebratory event in which students receive a World Scholars certificate of recognition and share a self-designed project that demonstrates acquisition of a Program outcome.
