Major Requirements
Some University requirements may be met by Major requirements. Additional Breadth Requirements:
- Three-credit English course
- Three-credit Leadership course
- One Creative Arts and Humanities course (could fulfill the University’s requirement)
or
- Foreign Language course (CHIN, FREN, GREK, GRMN, HEBR, ITAL, JAPN, LATN, PORT, RUSS, or SPAN) if the Creative Arts and Humanities requirement is fulfilled by the English requirement
- MATH 114 or higher or a three-credit CISC course
- Four-credit Mathematics, Natural Sciences, and Technology course (with lab)
One of the following statistics courses:
Human Services Core
Minimum grade C- in all HDFS courses and restricted electives. A student failing to meet the minimum required grade of C- when taking a major course for the second time may not be permitted to remain in an HDFS major requiring that course. Students may appeal this decision.
Families, Policy and Practice Electives:

*HDFS 427 may be taken as a Developmental elective or a Human Relationship elective, but not both. HDFS 409 and WOMS 408 may be taken as a Human Relationship elective or a Families, Policy and Practice elective but not both. Restricted Electives/Area of Interest:
- Eighteen credits taken from the approved lists below or other course(s) approved by an advisor.
- Determined in consultation with advisor upon completion of HDFS 235 .
- Nine credits of restricted electives from the list of suggested courses below must be completed prior to senior internship.

May be fulfilled with a minor. Minors may include, but are not limited to, legal studies, public policy, criminal justice, disability studies, leadership, women’s studies, public administration; related electives may be necessary to complete 18 credits. Restricted electives may also have an applied family research emphasis, and may include, but are not limited to, HDFS 466 , HDFS 615, and UNIV 401 /UNIV 402 Senior Thesis.
