Baccalaureate for the Registered Nurse (BSN)

Program Educational Goals:

1. Synthesize knowledge from nursing science, the arts and humanities, and biological, social, and physical sciences to provide evidence-based nursing care to individuals, families, communities, and populations.
2. Integrate systems and organizational leadership knowledge and skills in nursing practice to foster a safe and effective healthcare environment.
3. Use clinical reasoning to provide evidence-based, quality, and safe care for patients, including individuals, families, communities, and populations across the lifespan and across the continuum of healthcare environments.
4. Incorporate technology and information systems to ensure safe and effective care of individuals, families, communities, and populations.
5. Apply knowledge about healthcare policy, finance, and regulatory environments to professional nursing practice.
6. Engage in effective intra- and interprofessional communication and collaboration to ensure the delivery of high quality and safe patient care.
7. Incorporate principles of health promotion and clinical prevention in professional nursing care to improve population health.
8. Demonstrate ethical comportment, cultural humility, and professionalism in the care of individuals, families, communities, and populations.

University Requirements:

• ENGL 110 - Seminar in Composition  (C- minimum)
• First Year Seminar (FYS)  (0-4 credits)
• Discovery Learning Experience (DLE)  (three credits)
• Multicultural Requirement  (three credits)
• University Breadth Requirements  (C- minimum):
  • Creative Arts and Humanities  (three credits)
  • History and Cultural Change  (three credits)
  • Social and Behavioral Sciences  (three credits)
  • Mathematics, Natural Sciences, and Technology  (three credits)
• Capstone Experience  

Requirements:

The RN to BSN program is intended for licensed registered nurses who are graduates of an associate degree or diploma program. Nurses transfer 30 credits earned for successful completion of licensing exam.

Prerequisite courses: A minimum total of 22 credits in the following five categories: Anatomy and Physiology, General Biology, General Chemistry, Microbiology, and Nutrition.

Other prerequisite courses: Psychology (3 cr), Lifespan development (3 cr), and Statistics (3 cr).

After required courses are completed, sufficient elective credits must be taken to meet the minimum credit requirement for the degree.
