Program Abstract

The University of Delaware Montessori Teacher Residency (UDMTR) program will prepare teachers to teach children in Montessori schools at the preschool (3-6 year olds) or elementary (9-12 year olds) level.  The UDMTR is a one to two-year program (depending on age levels of certification) beginning with a combination of face-to-face and online summer coursework focused on the Montessori philosophy and the curriculum materials used in the classroom. Teachers in the program will be employed by a Montessori school or a school with Montessori classrooms where they will complete their residency.  During their residency, teachers will be coached by an experienced Montessori teacher, participate in child-study meetings, and have two field supervision visits.  The residents also will participate in four weekend-long seminars during the academic year reinforcing and extending on the concepts learned in the summer while allowing teachers to reflect on and refine their practice.

Certificate Format: In Person
