Exceptional Children and Youth - Autism/Severe Disabilities - 4+1 Autism/SD (BSEd/MEd)

Program Requirements:


Only available to students with ETE and ECE majors.

Choose a concentration:


Students choose one the following three concentrations: Elementary special education, secondary special education, or autism/severe disabilities.

Autism/Severe Disabilities Concentration:


Students in the autism/severe disabilities concentration complete the following required courses (33 credits):

  • EDUC 624 - Introduction to Autism and Sever Disabilities (3cr.)
  • EDUC 625 - Special Education Instruction/Curriculum: Autism/Severe (3cr.)
  • EDUC 626 - Functional Communication for Individuals with Autism and Sever Disabilities (3cr.)
  • EDUC 655 - Assistive Technology: Autism/Sever Disabilities (3cr.)
  • EDUC 669 - Engagement in the General Curriculum for Students with Severe Disabilities (3cr.)
  • EDUC 673 - School-to-Adult Life Transitions & Disability (3cr.)
  • EDUC 681 - Techniques for Behavior Change and Positive Behavior Support (3cr.)
  • EDUC 682 - Special Issues in Special Education (3cr.)
  • EDUC 745 - Collaborative Teaming in Special Education (3cr.)
  • EDUC 750 - Graduate Teaching Internship (3 to 9 cr.)
Note:

Senior Year Requirements:


During the Senior year, they complete 9 graduate credits that may be in lieu of 9 undergraduate credits and complete all remaining undergraduate requirements, including the student teaching experience. During the +1 year, students complete 24 graduate credits, which includes 6 credits of graduate teaching internship (EDUC 750).

Final Paper requirement:


Complete a non-course Final Paper requirement.
