Music Minor - Applied Music-Principal Instrument

Applied Music:


Minimum grade of C- required for all courses in the minor. Lessons will be 1/2 hour per week and may include a repertory class.

Ensemble:


Four credits of ensemble participation on student’s primary instrument.

  • Ensemble and private study must be taken concurrently (see Ensemble Policy in the Department of Music Student Handbook).
  • Music Minors with principal instrument of piano, organ, or guitar must refer to the Department for required ensembles.

Music Theory/History/Literature:


Minimum grade of C- is required for all courses in the minor, with the exception of MUSC 101  and MUSC 105 , which require a mininum grade of B+.

Students may choose from one of the following two options to satisfy the music theory requirement:

Note:


  • Please note that minors who wish to enroll in MUSC 195  in the spring semester must first pass the Music Theory Placement Exam or pass MUSC 184 - Music Fundamentals: Theory and Fluency  before enrolling. Please contact the music admissions office for more information.
  • Students who are not majoring in music or do not possess a strong background in music theory are encouraged to take MUSC 101  and MUSC 105  or MUSC 106  in place of the major-specific courses (MUSC 185  and MUSC 195 ).
