Music Minor - Applied Music-Principal Instrument

Applied Music:

Minimum grade of C- required for all courses in the minor. Lessons will be 1/2 hour per week and may include a repertory class.

Four credits of ensemble participation on student’s primary instrument.

Ensemble and private study must be taken concurrently (see Ensemble Policy in the Department of Music Student Handbook).
Music Minors with principal instrument of piano, organ, or guitar must refer to the Department for required ensembles.

Minimum grade of C- is required for all courses in the minor, with the exception of MUSC 101 and MUSC 105 , which require a mininum grade of B+.

Students may choose from one of the following two options to satisfy the music theory requirement:

Please note that minors who wish to enroll in MUSC 195 in the spring semester must first pass the Music Theory Placement Exam or pass MUSC 184 - Music Fundamentals: Theory and Fluency before enrolling. Please contact the music admissions office for more information.
Students who are not majoring in music or do not possess a strong background in music theory are encouraged to take MUSC 101 and MUSC 105 or MUSC 106 in place of the major-specific courses (MUSC 185 and MUSC 195 ).
