Requirements For The PhD Degree (43 credits)


Required Courses 25 credits


 

*may be waived based on prior master’s level coursework. The minimum Ph.D. Degree credits will be reduced for waived courses.

**students must complete 3 of the 4 Proseminars

# students must register for 1 credit each semester until admission to doctoral candidacy and register for zero credit after admission to doctoral candidacy.

 *UAPP 702 - Research Methods in Urban and Public Policy (3cr.)  

 *SPPA 808 - Qualitative Research Methods (3cr.)  

 **UAPP 823 - Proseminar: Social and Urban Policy (3cr.)  

 **UAPP 822 - Proseminar in Governance, Planning and Policy (3cr.)  

 **UAPP 830 - Proseminar Public Management and Leadership (3cr.)  

UAPP 801 - Processes of Social Inquiry (3cr.)  

SPPA 704 - Advanced Quantitative Methods (3cr.)

Note:


In addition, students must take additional coursework in reasearch methods as appropriate to their research plan and the advice of the student’s academic advisor.

Research Specialization 6 credits minimum


Teaching or Research Experience Requirements. 0-3 credits


Students must complete one substantive research or teaching experience, which may be for credit or non-credit.
