Disaster Science and Management (PhD)

Program Requirements:


The Doctor of Philosophy in Disaster Science and Management requires a minimum of 43 credits of graduate-level coursework beyond the master’s degree including nine credits of dissertation.

Students are expected to demonstrate expertise in four core areas:

  • Social Science of Disaster
  • Science and Engineering of Disaster
  • Management, Planning, and Leadership
  • Methods

The 43 credits of courseswork are specified in the individual planned program of study and must include the minimum number of credits in each core area as identified below. In the case where a student has taken the courses below at the MS-level, alternative courses may be approved through the plan of study by the advisor and program director.
