Global Business
Global Business prepares students for the opportunities and challenges of doing business on a global scale. This program anchors students with a solid understanding of global principles and business practices while offering a flexible curriculum. Students customize their degree by selecting from a variety of concentrations to tailor their education to their unique aspirations and ambitions.
Management
Managers are essential to every organization because they work with people to make and implement the decisions that move organizations forward. The Management major prepares students to be productive and insightful managers. It enhances students’ leadership, communication, and analytical skills; provides strategies and models for solving problems ethically and effectively; and equips students to become valuable organizational members who make things happen in today’s dynamic global economy. Students choose to pursue a general Management major or a Human Resource Management concentration.
Marketing
Marketing involves creating, communicating, delivering, and exchanging offerings that have value for customers, clients, partners, and society at large, according to the American Marketing Association. Students in the marketing major learn to assess and meet customer and company needs across several facets of business (e.g., services, pricing, advertising) by cultivating creative, analytical, and critical thinking skills. Marketing majors learn to make decisions focused on building a competitive advantage in the minds of consumers to create value for all stakeholders.
Operations Management
Operations managers use quantitative methods and tools to analyze data, evaluate alternatives, and make informed decisions to improve efficiency and productivity at all levels of an organization. The study of operations management equips students with the unique skills needed to optimize processes, reduce costs, and enhance competitiveness. Applications include project management, process management, risk management, revenue management, and supply chain coordination.
4+1 Program: Undergragduate & Accelerated Graduate Degrees
Students majoring in Marketing have the opportunity to participate in a 4+1 Business Analytics and Information Management MS program. With careful planning, academically eligible students can complete both their undergraduate degree and a graduate degree in five years of academic study.
Minors
The minor in Advertising is designed to give students from any major an understanding of the fundamental concepts of communication and marketing needed to make an impression in today’s competitive marketplace. Students will learn how advertising shapes consumer preferences, helps distinguish brands, and drives sales. Students will also explore the evolving digital media landscape and the social and cultural issues inherent in the new media and technologies.
The minor in Business Administration provides students in degree programs in Economics and those outside the Lerner College of Business and Economics with an opportunity to acquaint themselves with the basic concepts of business administration. Completion of the requirements for the minor provides a basic understanding of the language and major functional areas of business.
The minor in International Business is designed to give students from any major an increased understanding of the important international dimension of business. Students electing the International Business minor are encouraged to incorporate a short-term study abroad program into their course of study. Students seeking a minor in International Business may take only one of the required Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics courses at another AACSB institution unless advance permission is granted for credit earned in residential study-abroad courses.
The minor in Management, open to all majors except Management majors, meets the needs of employers for college students to have human-level skills, including collaboration, communication and persuasion.
The minor in Professional Selling and Sales Management , open to all majors, provides students with the concepts and language of personal selling and sales management. Students will improve their ability to realize desired results, whether selling products or services to the public or selling recommendations to teams within an organization.
