Program Overview

The University of Delaware Master of Business Administration (UD MBA) program provides a select group of students with a relevant, advanced business management education. Coursework integrates the functional areas of business, while preparing graduates for positions of greater responsibility in corporations, small businesses, consulting firms, government, or non-profit organizations. The core of the program provides students with the tools, analytics, and frameworks necessary to drive effective evidence based decision-making.  This set of skills, knowledge, and competencies allows for the successful management and leadership of organizations operating in an environment of scarce resources, rapid change, and global competition.

The UD MBA program is accredited by the AACSB International–The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Students may pursue either a full-time or part-time course of study in the UD MBA program. In some cases, UD MBA students with an undergraduate degree in Business Administration may waive some of the core classes and thereby complete the program with fewer than the 44 credits required of students with no prior academic background in business administration.

Students in the Lerner MBA program can customize their program by selecting from a variety of specializations (with both in-person and online options), in the form of 9-credit concentrations of 15-credit majors (or a combination of concentrations and majors).

Requirements for Admission

Admission to the MBA program is highly selective and is based upon a review of the applicant’s work, volunteer and other related experience, prior academic grades, essays, and letters of recommendation. An interview may be required at the program’s discretion. Applicants are required to provide a resume, a statement of objectives, a response to an essay question, and two letters of recommendation.  GMAT or GRE scores are optional. The entire portfolio submitted by the applicant will determine the admission decision - no single factor alone guarantees admission or disqualifies the applicant.

Applicants with three-year degrees are eligible for admission to the MBA program. Applicants with three-year degrees are encouraged, but not required, to contact the admissions office to have their transcript reviewed prior to completing the application. A favorable review is not a guarantee of admission.

Admissions decisions are made on a rolling basis throughout the year. To expedite consideration for admission, applications should be submitted by February 1 for full-time on-campus applicants seeking financial aid, June 1 for applicants seeking fall on-campus admission, and December 1 for applicants seeking spring on-campus admission. Admission decisions may be made after these dates if space is still available; however, students are strongly encouraged to apply early.

Application deadlines for the Online MBA program are approximately three weeks prior to the start of each online academic semester.

Candidates for admission need not have majored in any specific undergraduate field; however, students entering the UD MBA program are assumed to possess basic skills in written and oral communication, mathematics (normally one year at the college level), and computer technology (word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, and internet). Students deficient in any of these areas are encouraged to enroll in appropriate credit and non-credit courses.

Find additional information on admission to the MBA program on the Lerner MBA Admissions page.

Please refer to Graduate Admissions for more information.  Those who meet stated requirements are not guaranteed admission, nor are those who fail to meet all of those requirements necessarily precluded from admission if they offer other appropriate strengths.

MS International Business

Program Overview

As the scale and scope of the global economy expands, so does the need for executives able to assess it, navigate it, resolve challenges, and exploit opportunities. The Master of Science in International Business (MSIB) empowers you to develop and refine these competencies and capabilities, whether you presently, or aspire to, work in an enterprise that has international operations or a global orientation.

The MSIB curriculum consists of three complementary sets of coursework: (1) a 12-credit international module that develops your ability to assess, understand, interpret and apply principles and practices of global management, (2) a 3-credit international business elective and (3) a 15-credit business module comprised of customized coursework, selected by the student given professional ambitions and personal aspiration, in areas such as business analytics, accounting, economics, finance, marketing, entrepreneurship, information sciences, hospitality, and healthcare management.

The MSIB degree can be completed entirely on campus, entirely online, or as a hybrid of online and campus-based coursework. The 30-credit program may be completed in nine months by a full-time student, admitted in the fall semester, taking courses in the fall semester, winter session, and spring semester.

Requirements for Admission

Admission to the MSIB program is selective and is based upon a review of the applicant’s relevant experiences, prior academic grades, essays, and letters of recommendation. Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) or Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) scores are not required, but are suggested and may bolster the application.

Qualified applicants must hold the equivalent of a four-year U.S. bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. An interview may be required at the program’s discretion. As in all our admission decisions, we evaluate the full portfolio submitted by the applicant. No single factor alone guarantees admission or disqualifies the applicant.

Students in the MSIB program are admitted for initial enrollment in either Fall (August), Spring (February), or Summer (June) semesters. Admissions decisions are made on a rolling basis throughout the year, subject to the following deadlines:

Fall Semester

February 01: To be considered for departmental funding

  • August 01: Final deadline to apply, International

  • August 15: Final deadline to apply, Domestic

Spring Semester

  • December 15: Final deadline to apply, International

  • January 15: Final deadline to apply, Domestic

Summer Semester

International applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency through one of the following:

  • Submission of a TOEFL score of at least 100 or an IELTS alternative score of 7.5.

  • Transcripts of an earned college degree from an accredited education institution located in a country in which English is the official language.

Applicants lacking English Language proficiency may apply through the English Language Institute’s Conditional Acceptance Program (ELI-CAP). Students entering the program via ELI-CAP will be required to earn the certificate of proficiency in English language as a condition of admission.
